Through the course of all of the hiring manager interviews that I’ve done at RapDev for the Datadog Engineering team, the most common question I get is “What does the day-to-day look like for someone on the team?" The honest answer is that every day here is different and to me that’s one of the best things about working at RapDev. You get to solve problems across a wide variety of technical stacks, configuration tools, organizational structures, etc. I think it’s helpful to provide more specific examples though and in this blog I’m going to run through a few to give you a more concrete sense of what you could expect if you come onboard at RapDev.
First and foremost is providing the best technical guidance and overall experience we can for our clients. There’s a broad range here from talking through the tradeoffs on different agent deployment methodologies, how to structure their RBAC, governance policies, tagging strategy and more. Project teams will also have internal sessions to walk through how to best approach these decisions with a client as well to ensure that everyone contributes to their success.
We also speak to a wide variety of people across organizations including developers, platform engineers, DBA’s, CTO’s and the list goes on. I always love to highlight the fact that the sheer amount of variety that you see here allows for a tremendous amount of growth and career opportunity and the sharpening of your ability to communicate and influence your technical ideas across organizations is absolutely invaluable.
Nearly every project on the Datadog team here requires some amount of custom scripting whether it’s for agent deployments via Terraform, Ansible, Tanium, etc. onboarding or migration of dashboards/monitors/synthetics we lean in on automation anywhere we can.
With over 40+ RapDev integrations on Datadog’s marketplace there’s still always room for more. Anyone on the team can come up with an idea for an integration, develop it and get it merged into Datadog’s marketplace and our integrations have been developed across many different members of the team over the years. We also have internal repositories of automation scripts that allow for contributions across the team to ensure continuous feedback loops and improvements.
We provide customized knowledge transfer documentation as well as a variety of technical or organizational documentation for our clients to set them up for success in the longer term and to help drive decision making in some cases as well.
In addition to the work we do for clients we also cultivate an environment where everyone on the team should feel empowered to contribute to RapDev as a whole as well. This can take many different forms whether it’s Engineering blogs like this one, recorded videos on technical topics, attending conferences like DASH, hosting webinars, etc. We also have weekly internal sessions at RapDev that we call “Ship It, Share It” where anyone can volunteer to run through a specific technical challenge or topic that gets recorded and has become very helpful for onboarding and knowledge transfer as well.

Does this all sound right up your alley? Good news, we’re hiring! Please check out our current open roles on our careers page.
